Synopsis
"The Father's Child" begins with beautiful eighteen-year-old Stacy Noble, a devout Christian and class valedictorian, on her way to be the guest of honor on the nationally syndicated traveling revival show "The Right Reverend Roland Powers-Power Hour." Instead she is left in a coma by a car crash caused by her alcoholic father, John Noble, which also claims the life of her mother.
John Noble is surprised when he is sent to jail for manslaughter. Things take a turn for the worse when he learns that his daughter Stacy, now in a long-term care facility, is pregnant, the apparent victim of a rape.
John is talked into letting Stacy have the child in hopes of bringing her out of the coma, but to no avail. However, Stacy does give birth to a healthy baby boy, Joshua.
John Noble is released from prison early to raise his grandson Joshua, who appears to be in perfect health, but is a mute and never speaks. As he grows up he is haunted by dreams of his mother, still in a coma, and a young man named "James" he is destined to meet. She tells him he has a “gift” he is to bring to James.
James is a man who's always had a difficult life. He begins to have dreams of Joshua, as he grows older, where they can speak to each other but cannot see each other.
On his eighteenth birthday, Joshua is drawn to the hospital as his mother dies, but not before revealing his "gift", the ability to touch people and make them see heaven.
Joshua sets off on a journey to find James and give him the gift he believes is meant for him. He is joined along the way by Tabitha, a not so innocent young girl of faith he rescues from an Aryan church.
The road to find James leads Joshua back to the right reverend Roland Powers, whose traveling revival is now merely a second rate event barely even sustaining itself.
Joshua and James continue to battle the obstacles in the way of them fulfilling their destinies, and avoid the Evil One who seems to be challenging them both; Joshua with the power and responsibility of the gift, and James with the death of his sister due to a drug overdose.
All their roads come together in Los Angeles at the site of the newly resurging Powers traveling revival. Can Joshua give the gift to James in time or will the dark one and those under his influence snuff out a possible second coming?
